Having trouble writing
your classified ad? Here is our experienced
"Ad-Vice!"
1. BE THOROUGH. Sure you
want your ad to stand out from the rest, but don't skimp on
the sort of information that sells. The item's condition,
size, age, brand name and color are some of the basics readers
want to know. Without them, your ad may be passed.
2. STEER CLEAR OF
ABBREVIATIONS. OK, so you want to include all of the important
basics, now don't confuse your reader by using strange
abbreviations. What is perfectly clear to you may be perfectly
unrecognizable to someone else.
3. BE HONEST.
Exaggerating your item's finer points may bring in a lot of
responses, but a buyer who's misled won't appreciate it and
will take his business somewhere else.
4. STATE YOUR PRICE. The
cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of
classified readers. Ads showing prices are the ones that get
results. Giving prices also serves to 'weed out' those buyers
not in your price range.
5. BE ACCESSIBLE.
Including a telephone number, address or email address puts
you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours
you can be reached: a caller who can't get through the first
time usually won't try again.
